Quick answer: +995 is Georgia, the country in the Caucasus. The US state of Georgia uses +1. Every Georgian number has 9 digits after +995. Mobiles start with 5. If the number you were given starts with 0, drop the 0. Example:
+995 555 12 34 56.
How to dial Georgia
| Calling from | Dial |
|---|---|
| Any mobile phone | +995 + 9 digits |
| US or Canada landline | 011 995 + 9 digits |
| UK, Germany, Greece or Turkey landline | 00 995 + 9 digits |
| Russia landline | 8, wait for the tone, then 10 995 + 9 digits |
Georgians write landline numbers with a 0 before the area code, like 032 2XX XXXX for Tbilisi. Mobile numbers are usually written without it: 555 12 34 56. From abroad, drop any leading 0: 032 2XX XXXX becomes +995 32 2XX XXXX.
Mobile and landline numbers
Mobiles are 9 digits starting with 5, written 5XX XX XX XX. People can keep their number when they switch networks, so the first three digits don't reliably tell you the operator.
Landlines are an area code plus a local number, 9 digits together. Tbilisi has the 2-digit code 32 and 7-digit local numbers. Other towns have 3-digit codes and 6-digit numbers. Codes starting with 3 are in eastern Georgia, codes starting with 4 in the west.
| City | Area code in Georgia | From abroad |
|---|---|---|
| Tbilisi | 032 | +995 32 2xx xxxx |
| Batumi | 0422 | +995 422 xx xx xx |
| Kutaisi | 0431 | +995 431 xx xx xx |
| Rustavi | 0341 | +995 341 xx xx xx |
| Zugdidi | 0415 | +995 415 xx xx xx |
| Gori | 0370 | +995 370 xx xx xx |
| Telavi | 0350 | +995 350 xx xx xx |
| Poti | 0493 | +995 493 xx xx xx |
Codes that get mixed up with +995
+994 is Azerbaijan, Georgia's neighbour. The other mix-up is the US state: a number with an Atlanta area code such as 404, 678 or 770 is American and needs +1.
Time difference
Georgia is on UTC+4 all year and has not used daylight saving time since 2005.
| Where you are | Your clocks on summer time | Your clocks on standard time |
|---|---|---|
| US East Coast | Georgia is 8h ahead | Georgia is 9h ahead |
| UK | Georgia is 3h ahead | Georgia is 4h ahead |
| Germany | Georgia is 2h ahead | Georgia is 3h ahead |
| Greece | Georgia is 1h ahead | Georgia is 2h ahead |
| Moscow or Turkey | Georgia is 1h ahead all year | |
A 10 PM call from New York reaches Tbilisi at 6 AM in the US summer and 7 AM in the US winter.

FAQ
Someone in Tbilisi gave me a 7-digit number. How do I dial it?
That is the local number without the area code. Add 32 in front: +995 32 2XX XXXX.
Why won't my call to +995 go through?
Check three things: you dropped the leading 0, you have exactly 9 digits after +995, and you dialed 995, not 994. If the number has a US area code like 404, it belongs to the US state and needs +1.
